SERVICE

The Service

Recovery Church Providence RI gathers every Saturday night at 6:00pm at Oasis of Grace, 464 Silver Spring St. Providence. RI.

We open our service with praise and worship, community announcements and surrender crosses. We then welcome our speaker, followed by a time of open share, where attendees have a chance to share what is on their hearts.

Service closes with prayer and worship. On the last Saturday of the month, we have anniversary night, where we take the time to celebrate lengths of recovery; We do this by handing out crosses as a tangible reminder of the changes God is making in our lives!

We encourage all to stick around after service for refreshments and fellowship.

THE LEADERSHIP TEAM

(All leaders are listed alphabetically by first name)

Danielle Bruce

Servant Leader

Growing up in a broken, chaotic, and alcoholic family, she never realized how ‘cunning, powerful, and baffling’ the disease of addiction is. A high achiever with a college education, she was convinced that climbing the corporate ladder and material possessions were the keys to happiness and status. She achieved a high-paying career and business success in the DC area working in political and legislative affairs. Performing in theater taught her to mask fear and inadequacy with a facade of confidence but was going down a destructive path that was slowly destroying her mind, body, and soul. It all unraveled leading to arrests, jail time, career loss, and freedom.

Consumed by failure and humiliation, she soon hit rock bottom after learning she had an end-stage disease on the brink of death. She was financially, physically, and spiritually bankrupt. Completely lost and afraid, she opened an old Bible and flipped to a random page, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid…for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deut. 31:6). That moment saved her life. She immediately walked to a 12-step program of recovery and began her spiritual journey with God where she finally found hope and a fellowship. She prayed daily, deeply, and loudly. When her doctor asked how she miraculously recovered five months later, she simply said, “I got God and the 12 steps!”

Free from addiction since 2018, Danielle’s true self emerged through her walk with Jesus. Seeing true demonstrations of healing, she found her purpose to be of maximum service to God and sharing her experience to help others. She was called to the Recovery Church Movement first in NH and then in Delray, Florida. She soon was connected to a new RCM church being planted right in her new home state of Rhode Island! It was a true sign of divine Providence.

Gina Russo Barbosa

Pastor

Growing up in church, and being the daughter of a Minister, did not exempt Gina from the wilds of addiction and domestic violence.

Her journey with addiction began 20 years ago after she found herself in an abusive relationship. Her abuser introduced her to cocaine. What followed was desperation, hopelessness and a desire to end her life. A daily persuit of drugs, prison, attempted suicide and near fatal attacks were her new normal.

In 2011 Pastor Gina founded Broken Chains Ministries outreach to reach those who suffer from the same afflictions as she. She has traveled the country doing outreaches and speaking engagements reaching people in some of the most drug infested areas of the country.

Today Gina is 13 years saved, healed and delivered from all the chains that bound her and is the Pastor of her parent’s legacy and church, Oasis of Grace. Gina continues to travel and share the gospel of Salvation through Jesus.

Normajean Benevides Shovelton

Campus Lead

Normajean has been in recovery for over 20 years. She developed a transitional curriculum and opened two recovery houses in 2012 in the Providence area helping addicts and alcoholics integrate successfully back into society.

Normajean has worked in many levels of treatment over the years, from outreach to counseling and addiction recovery advocacy in the community.  Normajean has a passion for helping those who are struggling in the darkness and isolation of active addiction and alcoholism. Having been saved and born again in 2014, her walk with The  Lord is the driving force in her life wanting to share the freedom she has been given with others.

She is an active member of her church and believes in the importance of surrender and service. So many are broken and just need to know they matter. “Kindness goes a long way”
