About Us

A Church Created BY the Recovery Community
FOR the Recovery Community

• What is Recovery Church? •

Drug addicts and alcoholics experiencing redemption… that’s what you find at Recovery Church on any given night. It’s not a perfect place for perfect people, but a healing ground for those who want to get well, and it’s growing!

What is a Recovery Church? A Recovery Church is a 12 Step supportive, gospel-centered church that bridges the gap between support groups and the church. We encourage engagement in whatever 12 step group you are a part of and engagement in your local church.

Recovery Church Movement has the vision of planting more Recovery Churches across the United States as the growing substance abuse epidemic continues to plague our communities. Creating a safe place for people in recovery to grow spiritually is what Recovery Church Movement is all about.

Overdose is the #1 cause of death in the U.S. for people under 50.

In one year, it kills more Americans than the entire Vietnam war.

YET, GOD IS AT WORK.

• Our Story •

Founded in 2010, Recovery Church started with just a handful of men and women who wanted to give people an option to walk the journey of recovery with other Christ followers. The church has touched thousands of lives and now Recovery Church Movement has locations spreading across the country.

Recovery Church Delray Beach is a fellowship of people who desire to maintain their recovery while strengthening their relationship with Jesus Christ.

We believe in the redemptive power of Christ’s love and desire to walk alongside one another in our healing process. Recovery Church is a transparent, Christ-centered, non-judgmental body that offers support and encouragement. All are welcome.

• The Service •

We begin the service with contemporary worship music, followed by a sermon or testimony and then a 30-minute “open share” time in which people can share what is on their hearts in a small group setting.

The last Monday of every month is Anniversary Night. It is a time in which we celebrate lengths of sobriety by handing out crosses as a tangible reminder of the changes we have made in our lives.

Mitch Thompson

Executive Pastor / The Avenue Church, Delray

Through the pain of addiction and alcoholism I found Jesus.  I lived the first 32 years of my life far from God and completely lost.  Those years were filled with self indulgence, fear, and lots of pain which culminated in me getting arrested and charged with felony possession of Cocaine in 2007.  The Lord graciously used that arrest to lead me to a saving faith in Him, a sponsor,  and the program of Alcoholics Anonymous.  Through working my 12 steps and christian discipleship the Lord has radically transformed my life!  I have met and married my beautiful wife, became a father to the most amazing son, and became a pastor at The Avenue Church and now Recovery Church!  I believe that God has great things in store for Recovery Church and I am humbled and honored that the Lord would use me in this way!
